“It is good to listen to the profession and combine that advice with one’s own, gained experience. This way, the best results are achieved,” emphasizes the well-known farmer from Međimurje, Kristijan Šajnović from Domašinec, who cultivates more than 250 hectares of agricultural land, where he grows potatoes, corn, oil pumpkins, and beans.
Specifically, he cultivates Međimurje potatoes on 70 hectares, corn on 130 hectares, rapeseed on 30 hectares, and beans on 10 hectares. However, as the plots in Međimurje are small, he manages these areas across ten villages! “This, of course, increases production costs, but I am satisfied, even though the past year, 2024, was the worst year I remember. Due to the rains, the yield was weaker, and the price of potatoes lower than in 2023. We also have major problems due to sunchoke, which is a very aggressive, invasive species, so I ask the experts to help us get rid of this pest,” says Šajnović, proudly noting that his parents were farmers, and he has been professionally engaged in this branch of the economy for 20 years.
Family BusinessOn his family farm, where he works together with his wife Marija, son David, and employee Toni Katane, Kristijan plans to grow as much as 2,000 tons of potatoes this year, which he markets through the company Enna fruit, with which he has successfully collaborated for years.”To ensure a satisfactory yield, I invest in technology and place great importance on fertilizing the potatoes. I chose Timac Agro as my partner, and over the past two years, I have achieved excellent results with them. I mainly purchase solid fertilizers from them, Eurofertil Top 51 NPK in the amount of one ton per hectare, and Sulfammo 30, slow-releasing nitrogen, in the amount of 300 kilograms per hectare, as well as liquid biostimulants – Seactive Gold, which I use before flowering at a rate of 4 liters per hectare, and Seactive Elite for better potato storage,” he describes.

It is very good, he adds, satisfied because with the application of these products, the potatoes yield better. But not only that crop. “I first started treating potatoes with Sulfam, and now I also use it for pumpkins. I have a nice collaboration with their representative, engineer Goran Beliga, who is always available to me. I can say he has been with us from planting to harvesting,” emphasized the owner of this family farm. Solutions for sandy soils Kristijan Šajnović was among the first farmers in Međimurje to recognize the quality and effectiveness of granulated complex mineral fertilizers and liquid biostimulants from Timac Agro, a French company that has been offering high-quality solutions tailored to soil characteristics and climatic conditions for 60 years.
“In this part of Međimurje, the soils are sandy, so we use the fertilizer, the exclusive type of phosphate Top-Phos, which allows for phosphorus uptake regardless of the soil type and its acidity. That is why more and more potato growers, but also producers of other agricultural crops, are opting for our products,” explains agricultural engineer Goran Beliga, sales specialist advisor for Timac Agro in the Međimurje and Varaždin counties.Namely, by applying granulated complex mineral fertilizers, phosphorus is available to the plant throughout the entire growing cycle, and the phosphorus utilization rate is over 90 percent. Additionally, Šajnović also uses their Sulfammo 30, a granulated complex nitrogen fertilizer, which significantly improves nitrogen transformation within the plant thanks to special additives.”This ensures nitrogen availability throughout the entire growing season and increases the dry matter content in plants, which is the basis for high and stable yields,” adds Beliga.
With biostimulators to uniform fruitsMoreover, an increasing number of local farmers are using liquid biostimulants, Seactive Elite, Seactive Gold, and Fertiactyl Starter, which promote root system development, enhance plant growth and development, and stimulate nutrient and water uptake during stressful periods. By applying these biostimulants, uniform fruit growth is achieved, as well as longer transport and storage periods, which is especially important for potato growers.
Farmers have embraced these, as well as our other products excellently, as we offer them concrete solutions to the increasing challenges in this production,” he emphasized.
