Thousand grain weight (TGW) is an important indicator of seed quality and represents the mass of 1,000 grains of a specific seed lot. It is used to determine the required seeding rate for a given cultivated area. The amount of seed required for sowing is calculated based on the desired number of viable seeds per square metre, thousand grain weight, and seed germination percentage. Thousand grain weight enables more precise determination of the seeding rate, resulting in uniform crop establishment, optimal utilisation of production area, and achievement of high yields.
